YOGA AND DIET

The objective of yoga is to attain happiness.

Happiness is a state of mind characterized by Silence. (thought less state) .

Mind and body are associated and have a strong mutual relationship.

The functioning of physical sheath depends on the food.

Food we eat can be classified into to three Gunas (through which the nature operates).

 THREE GUNAS

Three gunas (energy States) are

       1. Tamas – Characterized by inaction,                        laziness.

2. Rajas   -  Characterized by fast                               movement, high activity.

3. Sattva -  Characterized by Peace ,                          Focus       and Contentment.

DIET AND GUNAS

Every individual is a composition of three Gunas.

The food we eat also produces energy which promotes and facilitates manifestation of these three Gunas.

Depending upon the kind of impact that it produces on the physical sheath and hence on the mental sheath, the food items are grouped into Tamasik , Rajasik and Satvik foods.

Sattva

Sattvic foods promote spiritual growth. They nourish the body without taxing the digestive tract. Sattvic foods do not stimulate desire or nervous energy. They create clarity instead of drowsiness or heaviness.

Rajas

Rajasic foods stimulate desire or nervous energy.

Tamas

Tamasic foods create drowsiness, cloudiness, and heaviness.
